Women's Squall Hardshell Jacket – advanced protection against rain, snow, and wind with a breathable TorrentStretch® 3L membrane
When the weather shows no mercy, neither should you. The Squall jacket delivers full protection in any condition – rain, snow, or wind – without compromising breathability. It’s the most advanced outer layer in our lineup.
What’s the difference between a softshell and a hardshell?
A softshell (like our Blizzard) protects against light wind and drizzle thanks to DWR. A hardshell – like the Squall – is a whole different level: maximum waterproofing, full weather resistance, and true breathability.
Membrane performance in the Squall jacket
We designed the TorrentStretch® membrane as a 3-layer laminate (3L), bonding the outer fabric, a microporous membrane, and an integrated liner into one strong material. Its micropores are smaller than a water droplet yet larger than a vapor molecule, keeping water out while allowing moisture to escape. A waterproof rating of 30,000 mm means you can count on its protection.
Is the Squall hardshell suitable for intense trekking in the rain?
Yes – the Squall was made for demanding routes. With its 30,000 mm / 30,000 g/m²/24h parameters, it can handle heavy rain while ensuring breathability even during high-output activity.
Key feature: waterproofing
Every detail of the Squall is designed to keep you dry: taped seams, adjustable hood with a high collar, YKK® AquaGuard® waterproof zippers, and a two-way main zipper with Prym snap closure. We’ve also added an eco-friendly DWR coating free from harmful PFCs.
Will the Squall hardshell withstand a mountain downpour?
Yes – with its 3L laminate and fully taped seams, this jacket is built for extreme conditions and won’t let you down even in prolonged heavy rain.
How the jacket stays breathable
Waterproofing is only half the battle. The other half is breathability – and the Squall delivers here too. The TorrentStretch® membrane offers 30,000 g/m²/24h breathability. The higher the MVP (Moisture Vapour Permeability), the better moisture escapes:
- 8,000 g – good for leisure,
- 20,000 g – great for active use,
- 30,000 g – top-tier performance.
RET (Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer): Squall scores 7, meaning excellent vapor permeability.
Ventilation solutions that work
Extra airflow comes from underarm vents. Combine that with adjustable cuffs, hood drawcords, and hem cinch cords, and you can adapt the Squall to changing conditions – no compromises. We use reliable Woojin components for all adjusters.
Does the Squall hardshell breathe?
Yes – the TorrentStretch® membrane and ventilation system ensure full breathability, even during intense activity.
Practical solutions for any weather
The Squall integrates perfectly with your layering system. In winter, it can easily fit over an insulating jacket like the Wolfhound Hoodie. The jacket features three pockets:
- Two chest pockets that won’t interfere with a backpack belt,
- One internal pocket for documents or a phone.
When packed, the Squall fits into its own hood – ideal for stashing in your pack. Personalization is easy with loop panels on the sleeves.
How to care for a membrane jacket
Membranes need proper care: use detergents designed for technical clothing, avoid standard laundry detergents, regularly refresh the DWR coating to extend the jacket’s life
What to wear under a hardshell
For best performance, pair it with technical layers: breathable base layers and insulating mid-layers to manage moisture and keep you warm.
What’s the best winter layering system under the Squall?
> Start with thermal underwear like our US LVL 1 base layer, then add a light insulating layer such as the Wolfhound Hoodie. This combination will handle harsh conditions.
